DISNEYMOON AFTERTHOUGHT!

I have already said so much about our honeymoon and yet there seems like there’s so much more that I could say. A lot of people don’t get our love of Disney. It’s unfortunate to say that I've been mocked and taunted because I love it so much. But everyone has their “thing, ” and our “thing” just happens to be something that not only spans time, but generations as well. I wrote a previous blog post called “Why Disney” where I explain my feelings further.

Long before we ever got engaged, there really was no question about what *kind* of honeymoon we’d have. We knew it’d be something that involved Disney. Originally, we were going to do a Disney Cruise, since hubby had never been on a cruise and he was, at first, apprehensive about the idea of spending the most romantic trip we’d ever have at the parks. But over time, and especially after we got engaged and were deep into the wedding planning process, we narrowed our focus. We heavily researched a Disney Honeymoon, from a Cruise to the Hawaii resort to the theme parks. After discussing our budget and how long we wanted to go away for (plus some convincing from me), it was an obvious choice: Walt Disney World.

We found out that the cost of a five-day stay at Disney's Aulani Resort in Hawaii or a seven-day Caribbean Disney Cruise would cost as much as an almost two-week honeymoon to Walt Disney World, if not more. When we realized that we could get away for an extended period of time and spend just as much, we were pretty excited. Plus there were other bonuses: A Walt Disney World trip is almost entirely all-inclusive, it’s a quick plane ride away (about two hours from Ohio), so we wouldn’t waste an entire day traveling, nor would we need to worry about anything serious like passports. We were also very familiar with it, so we knew how to plan and prepare...but because it’s so enormous, we knew there were still many more things for us to discover. It also provided us the right balance between relaxing (what hubby wanted most) and stuff to do (what I wanted most). I can’t go to a beach for a week without getting bored after the first day. Husband likes having the stuff to do, but also needs to have the option and ability to do nothing, should he desire - or his leg requires him too!

We heard a lot from people when we told them where we’d be going, “But you’ve already been there before!” So what? If we could have afforded the kind of honeymoon that allowed us to travel around Europe for a month, I'm sure we probably would have chosen that. Or maybe not. But more than likely, even if we couldve afforded to go to Europe, we most definitely would have made sure to visit Disneyland Paris. Because Disney is our happy place - its one of the biggest “things” in our relationship. Our shower was Mickey and Minnie inspired, our wedding was Beauty And The Beast inspired. We love watching the movies, listening to the music, playing the games, collecting the merchandise, and otherwise providing the company a comfortable future. ;P So what does it matter if that's where we went? I have to be honest, when I see that people go other places for their honeymoon, I feel sorry for them. To me, they are missing out on the amazing experience that is a Disneymoon. To get to experience every single thing you could ever want to experience on a honeymoon. To be at The Most Magical Place On Earth during the most magical time in your life...what could be better?

Husband and I look back on our Disneymoon now with such joy and longing. It really was one of those incredible moments in life. I can often be heard saying, "I miss our honeymoon" and hubby saying, "Can we go back to Disney yet?" Disney is always going to be a part of our lives. We are always going to be watching, listening, visiting. We even have discussed future baby shower themes...of course revolving around Disney. ;) This is what makes us "us" and what is always going to bring us the most joy. I could not have imagined traveling anywhere else in the world to spend those first few precious days as husband and wife. We are so blessed - we had a fairytale wedding AND a fairytale honeymoon!
